Situation

The desire to constantly push the safety culture of Torm to a higher level is on-going and extremely important objective that has top priority by Torm senior management. At all levels of the organisation a strong safety culture shall be manifested. The Advanced Safety Management project shall aim to help on board officers understand and manage their role as safety culture carriers and cultivators.

Solution

The ASM elearning course is following the concept of the Basic Safety Awareness project . The focus is the development of safety management and leadership competencies to support the process of developing a good safety culture.

The solution was an extensive interactive e-learning course where the participant becomes a safety facilitator, coach and instructor and is instructed and coached by a safety affluent course facilitator.  The 2 cases of the course represent 2 different work processes reflecting different attitudes, safety maturities and officer characters.

Result

The result is an interactive tool, which is based on behavioural training and a clarification of the seafarer's roles and responsibilities as safety culture carriers and cultivators. Also, the user is guided to interact in cases and consequently get an in depth understanding of the principles applied in day-to-day working situations.
