GJ conducts pilot Tanker Vetting course for EMS
Posted: Jun
2009
The first Tanker Vetting course for the EMS Group Management was
facilitated by Green-Jakobsen last June 2009 in Manila,
Philippines.
This course employs
the blended learning concept where traditional training methodology
is complemented with e-learning. The course is enriched with
video presentations, computer-based training (CBT), assignments,
quizzes and group activities. Class discussions are
efficiently used as follow up, thereby ensuring that the learning
process for each subject is sufficiently implemented.
The course received
positive feedback from the participants, mostly asserting that it
is indeed an effective tool to explain correct vetting inspection
practices and at the same time, convey factual guidance on how to
rectify problems that could lead to business losses and
off-hire.
During an interview,
participants expressed that this course is highly
recommended. They find it very useful to their jobs on board
for the following reasons:
- Incorrect perceptions about vetting inspections
are corrected.
- Existing knowledge on the subject is
complemented.
- Proper ways and means of handling vetting
inspections are clarified to correct wrong practices.
- Ways of passing a vetting inspection are
reinforced.
In general, the
participants agree that this course is undoubtedly a sufficient
refresher course for all seafarers.
This activity is
part of the Vetting project agreement between the two
companies. Aside from the development and production of
the Vetting eCourse, GJ is tasked to train the trainers of
EMS. The latter is a member of the tanker shipping consortium
that developed the Vetting eCourse in partnership with GJ and
Marstall Navigation School.
