Posted: 22 Oct 2009

Green-Jakobsen and the two Danish partners, Svendborg International Maritime Academy (SIMAC) and A.P. Møller Maersk, have undertaken the feasibility study on developing a training concept that covers cross disciplinary risk management integration in 4 maritime academies. The four participating schools in the feasibility study are AMET University of India, Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, Shanghai Marine University, and Svendborg International Maritime Academy.

During the visits last September, the partners discussed, mapped and conducted interviews with the school management, lecturers and students in order to understand the actual conditions in connection with the present safety and risk management training at the academies. This will form the basis of developing and integrating innovative Safety Management Principles into the regular education and training activities.

All 4 academies expressed their desire to integrate safety training further in the basic training and confirmed that there are a number of potential areas where improvements can be achieved. Furthermore, the idea of improving the risk management capabilities of the students and to make it an integral part of all their training activities during the whole study period is supported by the management of all 4 schools. It is expected that they will all play an active role in preparation of the future project.
