MSS Safety Culture Survey

In December 2009 all Maersk Supply HSE personnel were gathered in
Copenhagen to discuss and define a new HSE strategy. In this
connection it was discovered that a pre-requisite in the decision
making process was to add/find more 'intelligence' supporting the
process forward. In order to make the correct decisions and to
initiate the correct development projects solid background
information and data is in other words assessed of pivotal
importance.
In compliance with
this identified need it was decided to start-up 2 'intelligence
gathering' processes:
1) Safety Culture Survey and
2) Seafarer Focus Group
to discuss specifically the Risk Assessment/SJA processes.
The objective of the project is to define; what is
the problem and where is the best place to start? Often
organizations start solving their problems without agreeing to what
the problem is. Later on in the process, discussions and
disagreement arise due to the fact that everybody will have a
different comprehension of what actually is the problem.
When all the facts,
feelings, emotions and other relevant information have been
collected it will serve as the basis for implementation of other
organizational initiatives such as; risk management training,
safety management workshops, ISO 18001 implementation and safety
officer training - all initiatives aiming to improve the overall
safety culture within the MSS organization.
