Panama Maritime Conference
Posted: February, 2011
Mikkel
Brønnum Hansen, Business Consultant at Green-Jakobsen, spoke
on STCW 2010 at the Panama Maritime X - the largest maritime
conference in the Americas on February 14th 2011.
Mikkel spoke about
the implications of the 2010 amendments of the STCW convention on
the shipowners. The revised STCW convention enters into force by
January 2012, and will be fully implemented by January 2017. The
convention hosts a great deal of changes affecting shipowners, for
example certification of ratings under the convention and a focus
on leadership competencies as part of the convention for the first
time. One of the main points Mikkel made was that maritime
administrations should ensure a coordinated implementation effort
in order to avoid loop holes - and that administrations should
ensure to use the recommendations in the convention on using
e-learning tools for various types of training.
The conference also
hosted other prominent speakers, like Mr. Efthimios E. Mitropoulos
Secretary General of the IMO, as well as the President of Panama
Mr. Ricardo Martinelli.
