Leadership is a journey

In support to the existing Operational Leadership within its organisation, a pilot course on Maritime Leadership for Teekay officers was conducted by Green Jakobsen in Manila last April 11 to 14.

This four-day course covers the different management and communication modules that are designed and developed specifically for the maritime setting. It was attended by two Filipino Senior Officers and eleven Junior Officers from Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Adrien Luntao, the Manager of Talent, Development and Training of Teekay Shipping Ltd mentioned that leadership is a journey which cannot be achieved overnight but will take some time before a person gets used to it. He and Gilbert Maturan, Teekay Shipping Philippines' Training Manager both agree that the course will greatly help them in maintaining Teekay's position to be the "Marine Midstream Company". In addition, the participants gave an overall positive impression of the course as they find the tools very useful in developing their leadership skills.

Teekay and Green Jakobsen will embark on a longer working partnership by integrating company-specific values and requirements to the course to ensure the effectiveness and suitability to the target learners. Both companies agreed to implement the revised course in June which is to be the start of a series of four courses in 2011.
