Lloyds Manning and Training conference

Erik Green, Managing Director and Partner of Green-Jakobsen A/S was one of the speakers at the Asia-Pacific Manning & Training Conference held on November 17-18, 2010 in Manila, Philippines.

He spoke on the subject "Improved safety training at maritime training academies". This was based on the "Embody Safety" project that Green-Jakobsen is currently spearheading in partnership with Svenborg International Maritime Academy in Denmark, AMET University in India, Philippine Merchant Marine Academy, and Shanghai Maritime University.

Erik underscored the need to refocus the industry's attention to maritime schools where reinforcement or behavioural conversion must start to affect a great change in the mindset of future seafarers.  The technical curriculum, he said, should be reviewed in order to address the development of safety behaviour among students.

The manning and training conference is an annual event where various stakeholders in the maritime industry converge and discuss the current developments having major impact on crew management and training.
