GJ to develop on board training for Nordic Tankers

Nordic Tankers and Green-Jakobsen have been granted an IMTT funding of a project to develop a pedagogical training concept for on board trainers.

The objective of the project is to find ways of improving the pedagogical approach to training and hereby increase the understanding and learning achieved among seafarers from the on board training. The project will further identify the most important teaching skills and competencies for on board trainers and describe how these can be developed.

The 'on board trainer' is typically a senior officer or superintendent working onshore at the HR or training department. The key competencies for becoming an on board trainer are the on board working experiences gained, however when working as a trainer teaching others, sound pedagogical competencies are required in order to ensure a good learning impact for all. This development project will take into considerations the target groups and the special conditions of on board training and on this basis focus on how pedagogical best practice within teaching can be applied.
