'Plans are
nothing - planning is everything'
Exercise Objective
While shipping companies always try to avoid any
incidents and accidents, it is important to have measures in place
to deal with the consequences of any unplanned event. The overall
objective of the exercise is therefore to test the provisions that
vessel operators have made at the office to ensure that their
management systems are effective enough and their contingency plans
for responding to an accident or emergency are working.
The use of external resources provides non-bias
and realistic exercises provided by professionals. All exercises
will be consistent with the size and composition of the fleet and
its trading patterns.
The drill process and deliverables
A drill can have many shapes and forms. However,
the Green-Jakobsen approach to drill management is always split
into the following 3 phases:
- Preparation - Defining the scenario
(Emergency category, vessel
conditions etc.) and writing the script
- Running the drill and on-the-day feedback
- Observing and ensuring that the drill
is effective
- Structured and thorough evaluation
feedback - Written report summarising
key findings and recommendations
Each phase is a close co-operation between the
company designated staff and Green-Jakobsen but will at all times
be managed by Green-Jakobsen.
What we look at
