On board training; engaging and relevant training

Posted by Janne Haugland on November 29, 2016
Tags: Competence Management, Learning and Development Strategy, Safety Culture Development

This is the third and final article about on board training. In this interview with Maarten Colman from Exmar you will see that he has put quite a lot of emphasis on following up and getting feedback from the crew on board about how the training concept works. So far it seems to be a great success as the crew sees it not so much as a burden, but more as an integral part of their life a sea. At the same time it is a strong tool in implementing their safety culture development programme.

Strategic outsourcing in the maritime segment: Perspectives and Practices

Posted by Janne Haugland on January 6, 2016
Tags: Competence Management, Learning and Development Strategy, Performance Management, Recruitment & Retention

Organisations that choose to outsource non-core functions are able to focus more on their core activities. This was the main reason for TORM to delegate the responsibility for training of their seafarers in India and the Philippines to Green-Jakobsen back in 2013.
An important asset for this outsourcing concept is our presence in India. As of 1st January 2016 Green-Jakobsen has entered into collaboration with the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) in Mumbai and as a result of this our local representative and instructors in Mumbai will be based at DI’s premises. From there all our consultancy activities in India, especially when it comes to safety and leadership courses, will be coordinated and promoted. Also, we are fully equipped to undertake a full course provision and coordination service for shipping companies under outsourcing agreements.
This article is a portrait of our Outsourcing concept as it is run in cooperation with TORM. We have interviewed Bente Boa, Global Head of Training, and Capt. Ashok Menon, Senior Manager of Training in TORM India.
